What are the Five Social Media Etiquettes?

Let’s take a look at the five important dos and don’ts of social media etiquette.

1. Ask yourself these three questions – is it true? is it kind? must I post it?

This is for when you’re posting comments on other people’s profiles or on a thread.

Just asking these three questions will make you either rephrase what you were going to say or make you realize you don’t have all the facts. Sometimes, it is better to scroll past.

2. Ask before uploading pics of your friends/family, where you are the star

Social media is where most people highlight their best moments, body features, and great moments.

Being tagged in an unfaltering post is the last thing some people want. Ask your friends first before uploading photos of them and tagging them.

3. Avoid trolls and mind the feelings of the other person across the keyboard

Trolls are bullies behind the keyboard who terrorize other people for being themselves. Supporting trolls encourages them as that validates them.

Avoid engaging in their internet fights and negativity, as readers can’t differentiate between you and them.

4. The old basic rules of etiquette – please, thank you and sorry- still apply

And the reason for this is straightforward; social media users are people and people value being respected.

When asking for info, do it politely. When complimented say “thank you”, and if you are in the wrong, apologize. It doesn’t hurt at all to be kind online.

5. Respect people’s privacy online; yes, boundaries apply on the internet too

Not everyone is comfortable sharing details of where they went shopping or showing who they hang out with. That’s okay and should be respected; because the internet does not erase boundaries. Respect for online privacy is very necessary.

So if you have been wondering how do you look classy on social media, now you know the elegant things to do. So don’t be an elegant woman in real life but a gauche on social media
